In Memory OfBernard Q. BerkAugust 4, 1922 - December 14, 2001

Bernard Q. Berk, CPA was one of the founding directors of Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams, Ltd.  Bernie spent the first three years of his accounting career as the retail accounting and auditing department manager for Aldens, Inc.  He then joined Miller, Mandel & Company, where he became a partner five years later.  In 1970, Miller, Mandel & Company merged with Laventhol & Horwath and in 1977, Bernie and six other directors — Herb Ostrow, Bernie Reisin, Al Abrams, Kal Shiner, Mel Strauss, Earle Kessler — left and founded Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams.

Kal Shiner, a Director at the firm, worked with Bernie as a junior staff member at Miller, Mandell & Company. “Bernie always had a way with numbers and a fiscally conservative approach that was an important component of ORBA’s early growth,” said Shiner.

Berk was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society.

Bernie was a devoted husband to Naomi (nee Yampol), his wife of 44 years, and the loving father of Lila Lerman of San Diego, CA, and Sherry Appelman (Joel) of Gurnee, IL.  He was also a proud grandfather of Michael, Kevin, Steven and Douglas.  Mr. Berk was an anchor to all who knew and loved him, and was a respected member of the Chicagoland business and accounting community.
