“I enjoy the challenge of presenting complex financial material to laypeople in a way that is both interesting and understandable.”

Scott began his career as a practicing accounting and finance professional in 1982.  Since then, he has developed a broad range of experience that, in addition to auditing and tax planning services, includes providing expert testimony on accounting and financial matters in numerous state and federal jurisdictions across the country.  He has earned multiple designations, including Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA).

Prior to joining ORBA, Scott began his accounting career as a cost accountant in the Grocery Products Division of Pet, Inc.  Since entering public accounting in 1984 at KPMG in St. Louis, Scott has been serving clients in several national and local firms as an auditor, tax advisor, business consultant and fraud examiner.  Since 2001, Scott has focused his practice primarily on assisting clients and their attorneys in complex litigation cases.

Scott has testified on financial matters in conjunction with many different types of cases, including shareholder disputes, fraud and embezzlement, post-merger/acquisition disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, theft of trade secrets, post-employment disputes and marital dissolution.  His complex case and significant testimony experience has given Scott three advantages in serving as an expert witness:

  • He is able to communicate difficult financial theory in “plain English;"
  • His presentation of financial models and written reports comply with jurisdictional standards; and
  • He knows the integral nuances of the litigation process and the role an expert witness should play.

Scott believes in being a big part of anything he does, both in and out of work.  Scott, his wife and two grown children share many interests together and pursue them with passion.  Scott and his wife share a love of the outdoors and the whole family enjoys caring for animals and serving not-for-profit organizations that help disadvantaged children.

He’s also been a guest lecturer at Saint Louis University’s John Cook School of Business. He also regularly presents webinars and in-person CLE seminars for law firms on relevant financial and litigation-related topics.
