Thomas has more than ten years of tax law expertise and is a member of its Tax Department. He has experience with all aspects of mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs and recapitalizations for corporations, limited liability companies and other flow-through or disregarded entities. He is adept in minimizing self-employment and net investment income taxes for closely-held business, investment funds and other entities.

He also has experience with representing clients before tax authorities in numerous U.S. states, the District of Columbia, IRS examinations, IRS office of appeals, the U.S. Tax Court and the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.


Thomas relies on his pragmatic and sensible approach when dealing with client tax matters. Because of this, he his described by both colleagues and clients as the “go-to” tax advisor for practical solutions to complex problems that need to be clearly communicated to clients.

Outside of the Office

Outside of the office, Thomas provides pro bono services to low-income taxpayers.  He enjoys hiking and biking with his wife and two sons and has enjoyed traveling the world ever since his time in the Peace Corps.
