Terry joined the firm as a Director leading the Estate Planning Services Group. As an attorney, he has over 15 years of financial, tax, compliance and wealth transfer planning experience. Over this time, Terry has built and maintains a practice in the areas of trusts and estates, including tax and corporate planning for successful entrepreneurs, professionals, executives and their families. He focuses primarily on the multigenerational distribution of family and closely-held business wealth on a tax-advantaged basis. Terry also has developed a significant practice establishing and administering public charities, private foundations and other tax-exempt entities.

 

Terry has served as a board member and tax counsel for local arts and religious organizations, educational institutions and hospital foundations. He also has provided advice and counsel to various local charities and further has provided regular pro bono assistance for charities seeking to implement or maintain their tax-exempt status. Terry most recently served on the Board of Trustees of Holy Trinity High School and as a member of the Board of the Chicago Regional Emergency Services Training Foundation. In addition, he is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Chicago Estate Planning Council and the Chicago Council on Planned Giving. Terry has also previously served as chair of the DuPage County Bar Association Estate Planning Committee.

 

Terry speaks frequently on various topics relating to his areas of expertise and trains professionals in the areas of estate planning and charitable planned giving. Terry is also the author of Chapter 6 entitled "Managing Decedent’s Operating Business and Related Problems" in IICLE’s volumes concerning Illinois Estate Administration.

 

Terry obtained his undergraduate degree from John Carroll University in 1989, graduating summa cum laude. He received his law degree from Northwestern University in 1992, where he also served as an articles editor for its Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology.
