Alan Witt has been with ORBA as a director since 1983 and has held positions as head of the Tax Department and as managing director of the firm. During more than three decades since law school, Alan has cultivated expertise in many areas, including:
- High net worth advisory and family office counseling;
- Estate and trust planning;
- Real estate acquisition, disposition and operation;
- Mergers and acquisition structuring, negotiating and tax reduction strategies; and
- Profit improvement consulting for manufacturers and distribution companies.
As the international business landscape continues to grow, he has become more involved with international tax and business consulting with clients that have operations in China, India, England, Brazil, South Africa and a number of other global locations.
Alan has served as the co-editor of Tax Clinic and Tax Advisor magazines as well as the co-author of Callahan’s Legal Checklist. He has taught at Kent College of Law – IIT, Lewis College of Law and conducted various ICPAS seminars. He also has been a keynote speaker at numerous trade associations on tax and personal financial planning topics. Alan was named “Who’s Who in American Law” and “Who’s Who in Emerging Leaders in America.”

Alan is known for his drive to explore new ideas, find answers, minimize taxes and help clients close transactions. And, he truly enjoys the challenge of finding a solution where others cannot. For Alan, that often involves seeing the problem from multiple angles to understand each stakeholders’ unique concerns and opportunities.
His ability to understand different perspectives is why Alan is often called on to advise on business succession and wealth transfer issues. He is able to convey the complexities of these topics to clients by taking into account their age, financial sophistication, skill set and motivations.
As with his work, Alan has many interests that he draws upon to enrich his life outside of the office. He is an avid sports enthusiast and a season ticket holder of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He and his wife also enjoy a range of theater and concerts, from Broadway shows to local productions. Along with their three children, they love immersive traveling that involves local activities and exciting adventures.
