As of July 1, 2015, the minimum wage in Chicago increases to $10.00 per hour. The minimum wage for tipped workers in the city also increases to $5.45 per hour. These increases are part of an ordinance that will see the minimum wage increase gradually to $13.00 per hour by July 1, 2019.

All employers within the city are subject to the new minimum wage, including domestic employees, day laborers and home health care workers.

There are, however, some employees not covered by the ordinance. Youth under age 18, adults during the first 90 days of employment, trainees in a program for no more than 6 months and employees working at a business with four or fewer employees are examples of employees that may not be covered.

The City of Chicago website provides additional details regarding the incremental wage increases and covered employers and employees.
